OUR CLUB

Welcome to our club!

Welcome to Scarborough-Wombarra SLSC. We are a small surf lifesaving club located on Dharawal country, 70km south of Sydney, 10km south of the Royal National Park, 3km south of the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge, and 20km north of Wollongong.

Our club was established in 1914 and forms part of the Surf Lifesaving Illawarra branch.

Our surf club is only small in numbers yet performs such an important role within the community. Our club gives nippers their first introduction into the skills needed in a beach environment, our club educates locals in becoming surf lifesavers, and our club makes the beach a safer place for locals and visitors alike, by patrolling it on Sundays and Public Holidays October to April. Our club is made up of a passionate team who are proud to be called members of this club.

Membership

Our club is always on the lookout for new members, no matter people’s skills or previous experience in surf lifesaving.
We have all the relevant tools available to get potential members up to speed to be able to make a difference for our local community.

We have a number of different membership types available, ranging from active patrolling members to the younger nippers and their parents.

Our registration fees are $0.00 per year – yes, NIL!
for all patrolling members for the next 10 years.

Are you new to the area? An empty nester? Or a former patrol member thinking about coming back?
Scarborough-Wombarra SLSC are looking for you to help keep our patrol numbers healthy.
Switch off from technology and enjoy the beach and sunshine,
and become part of a welcoming and inclusive club.
It’s a great way to meet new people in your community
and be part of the SLS movement.

Member Protection

Scarborough-Wombarra SLSC is committed to the protection, welfare and well-being of all members and is dedicated to providing a positive and safe environment in line with the SLSA Member Protection Policy and Child Safe Policy.

We take an inclusive approach, dedicated to being open to all members of the Australian community and providing a safe environment, ensuring all members are treated with respect and dignity and are protected from discrimination, harassment and abuse.

Our aim is to create a safe and nurturing environment for all members participating in surf lifesaving by following the Member Protection Code of Conduct.

Our Member Protection Team

Our club has a group of dedicated volunteers who look after member protection issues. These include a Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO), Complaints Manager and Child Safe Coordinator.

Member Protection Information Officer: Shane Adams
Complaints Manager: Peter Rafferty
Child Safe Coordinator: Ant Ritter

All members of the team can be contacted at: ua.moc.cslswsobfsctd-423481@ofni

Complaint Management

The MPIO is available to provide advice to all members who may have an issue or potential grievance at the club and is the first point of contact for any member wishing to raise a concern.

After contacting the MPIO, should any member wish to proceed with a formal complaint, this can be lodged via the SLSA online complaints portal.

All complaints are triaged external to the Club and then if appropriate referred back to the Club Complaints Manager, who will treat the matter in confidence and determine the most appropriate course of action.

We understand that in a community organisation where everyone knows each other, conflicts of interest can arise. We want members to feel they are able to raise any concerns they have, and if there is a conflict of interest and members would prefer to speak to the MPIO or someone else within the club regarding their concern, please contact us in the first instance, by email:

Our Sponsors & Supporters

We extend a massive ”thank you” to all those individuals and companies that have supported our Club in the past, and continue to do so.

We have also been very fortunate to receive some cash donations from local members of the community over the years, and we thank them very much.
Without your support we would not have been able to maintain the services and facilities to keep our beach safe.
