Scarborough-Wombarra currently have teams that patrol the beach on Sundays and Public Holidays from the September school holidays to Anzac Day.
Patrols run from 10am to 5pm, and the roster is broken into 2 shifts per day, 10.00am to 1.30pm, and 1.30pm to 5.00pm.
The club also assists Wollongong City Council in patrolling the beach on some Saturdays during the peak of the season, from 11.00am to 3.00pm.
We have a number of different membership types available, ranging from active patrolling members to the younger nippers and their parents.
In order to patrol the beach, members (and potential members) must first obtain their Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate.
Scarborough-Wombarra has the in-house resources available to run these courses and get potential members the necessary accreditation.
Nippers is for the kids, it’s the fun part of what we do!
Surf lifesaving is a great activity for growing a child’s confidence, knowledge and skills in the beach environment.
By providing a Nippers program, Scarborough-Wombarra SLSC are ensuring that the next generation learns valuable life skills and knowledge which one day might save their life, or even perhaps the life of another.
Excited to announce the rebranding of our nipper program for 2025-26 and onwards after member and nipper voting Scarborough Wombarra Stingrays Historically the nippers have used the Stingray mascot and we have bought it up to date and to reflect the clubs senior logo In giving the nippers their own identity we are looking for the parents and kids to buy into what we are trying to achieve at the club. To grow in nipper numbers and parent involvement and build on what was a very successful and positive season just completed Bring on Summer 2025-26
What a fantastic season, Our final nippers of the season last Sunday and preso straight after. Great surf conditions and we had the older age groups smashing the swim and board activities. Thank you to all the families that make our small club such a welcoming and inclusive space and your positivity in our nipper program. To the the age managers that have done such a wonderful job this season and continually encouraged the nippers at each meeting , thankyou so much - you have helped make our nippers grow in confidence which we have all noted and also made each meeting fun for the kids From left to right on the last image: Andy, Lacey, Dave, Fraggle, Kath and Ryan Looking forward to 2025-26 season
Every SLS club in Australia understands how important the families in the background contribute so much work all season to help us grow and be better without looking for recognition . At our surf club to Helen and Simon Briddon , I can’t underestimate how you both make this club better. Thank you both so much for everything you have done this year
Final nippers for the season and preso afterwards - what a great morning and a great way to complete our program Fantastic weather, surf conditions and turnup. We have been so fortunate that we didn't have to cancel one meeting this season and nippers went into the water in swim and boards at every session I placed expectations on myself this year taking over the program from Ant who invested so much time over so many years and made the transition so much easier. My expectations were far exceeded by the contribution of parents and families who want to be invested in this family friendly surf club and everything we are trying to achieve. To educate kids on surf safety but also to encourage and watch the confidence of nippers increase at every meeting in the surf This comes down to a truly wonderful water safety group that has been the most rewarding achievement for me this year To Ben Hamill as our water safety Co-Ordinator - as a leader and educator your consistent message and energy has made our season so successful To the Age managers that have not just filled a role but taken ownership of these kids and their own personalities, which has really seen a growth in their confidence thank you so much Lacey U5s Sand and Play , Andy U6s + 7s, Fraggle U8s, Dave U9s and 10s and to Kath and Ryan 11s-14s, I cant thankyou enough for your efforts this year and hope to see you next year We can have only have a successful nippers program with increased water safety and I asked parents to jump on board at the start of the year. To Grace , Liz and Kieran in obtaining your bronze this year and being leaders in the water each meeting you are such an important factor of why this year has gone so well. Your patience, empathy and encouragement to the nippers has been so wonderful to stand back and admire. If we could pick up another2-3 parents next year we would be in such a good place To the famous Five - the SRC kids I inherited from last year - the utmost respect for your skillset, communication and investment in our club - Lacey, Jemima, Remy, Audrey and Kieran To all the nipper parents in our club thankyou for believing and supporting on what we are doing at SWSLS
